YMCA Campfire Conference Celebrates 40 Years!

Next week marks the 40th anniversary of the YMCA Campfire Conference in Black Mountain, NC. I have been fortunate to attend this conference a few times during my career with the YMCA. The conference brings together camp and youth professionals from all over the East Coast, and sometimes farther. I love this conference because it is a great chance to connect with other colleagues, share ideas, and bring back new life to your programs. With the arrival of our 2nd child being any day now, my colleague Hobie Dunn is helping lead a workshop for me about the “The Power Of Sharing Ideas” and this website as a new resource to use! The workshop will be held on Monday, January 14th from 1:30pm-2:30pm.

In this workshop you will have a chance to understand the site and how you can contribute. We will also learn the power of sharing ideas and the importance of networking with your co-workers and programs across the country. Sometimes the ideas we hear or come up with often get lost or go unused. We have found success in “stealing” ideas and using them to make our programs 1% better. We should challenge ourselves as leaders to be humble and use other ideas that areĀ not our own.

This website was first introduced last year at the conference briefly during an intermission. I am excited to have this presented in a workshop, and hope to continue the momentum of this website so more professionals will know about this free resource. It has only been around for about a year and a half now. There will be some free youthprogramfire.com stickers by Sticker Mule at the workshop. Go check it out if you are attending the conference and snag a sticker to help me promote this back in your community/program! I can’t wait to see what ideas you share at the workshop and conference!
