Today’s post for Outdoor Games during Spring Break Week is Hat Tricked! This game was invented by a group of guys from Fresh Meadows, New York. This is a game that can be played almost anywhere, and teaches ball movement, passing, and scoring. What I love most about this game after watching videos on Instagram, is that everyone is involved! You can’t just hide on the sidelines, everyone is important when playing this game. You also don’t need a huge group of players or huge space. You really only need 4 people to play. It seems like the best games are when you have 3 or 4 players per team. This is a game for all ages. I have seen elementary PE classes utilizing this game as part of their curriculum, and I have seen adults playing this. This is perfect for any YMCA camp, Birthday Party, PE Class, Youth Group, or just a game to get your staff excited to play together!
- First team to score 3 balls in different goals is the winner. “Hat Trick”
- You can only take 1 step
- You can outline with painter’s tape, chalk, etc.. to make a crease where players are not allowed to stand in front of.
- If the ball hits the ground, it needs to go back to the check line.
They have the field dimensions online as well. I have also seen videos of people using this game full court/field, so there is no check line. The ball/players move to the opposite goal. It is up to you on how you want to teach this or utilize.
I will add this game to the Resource Zone, check this out for more game ideas to make your program the best!
