I recently came across Randy Spring who is an awesome PE Teacher from Woodbury, Minnesota. He has been leading an activity called “Cardio Fit Stickin” which is a great way to teach Rhythm and Dance to K-5. I love this activity because it gets all participants engaged and active. It also teaches rhythm and coordination. This is a perfect activity for all ages, and any youth program.
What Do You Need?
- You can use a variety of things for the fit sticks. Lummi sticks seem to work best. You can find them on Amazon for about $21 for a set of 24 sticks. I have seen some classes using cut up pool noodles or hockey sticks. Each participant will have two sticks.
- A projector/screen to show the video to the class with sound. If you don’t have this, you can use a TV as your guide. If you lack both of these visual/sounds, then see if you can learn his routine or make one yourself. Use a block rocker for your sound!
Randy also has a variety of other PE videos on his YouTube Channel Randy Spring YouTube that has more songs, dances, and PE games. He has shared many ideas, and wants to help others. This lines up perfectly with our website. Go check out his channel!
I have added this activity to Youth Programming in the Resource Zone. Check this out for more fun ideas.
